Amsterdams Bont bowl. blue and white china, decorated in Europe. The original bowl has a nice relief. Later the bowl is in Europe in Japanese Kakiemon style. The decoration contains a pine, prunus and bamboo also known as ‘three friends of winter’. They do not only symbolise winter but the individual attributes represent the qualities of a gentleman: pine represents longevity and constancy, bamboo flexibility and integrity and prunus independence and perseverance. The ‘three friends’ also stands for the three religions of China; confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism. Also a tiger and a bird are decorated on the bowl
