Amsterdams Bont bowl. blue and white china, decorated in Europe. Decorated with kakiemon colors. The bowl depicts the popular parrots on a rose and butterfly’s.
The origin of painting parrots came from Adriaen Collaert, who drew a series of prints of birds in 1580. One contained two parrot on tree stumps. Parrots became populair and were a common subject on European decorated oriental porcelain.
