Description:

Inscription reads: “honi soit qui mal y pense” meaning “shamed be whoever thinks ill of it”, usually translated as “shame on anyone who thinks evil of it”[1] It is the motto of the British chivalric Order of the Garter, the highest of all British knighthood.
The bowl was most likely made in commemoration of the accession of the Dutch Stadholder into the order in 1733 by British King George II, after his mariage with the daughter Anne van Hannover.
