Exquisite …. This is a most interesting Famille rose plate in that it combines both Buddhists and Taoist elements of design ….. the central panel has two mandarin ducks representing marital bliss along with blooming lotus flowers which represent the teachings of Buddha ….. and the beautiful border has a depiction of the eight Taoist immortals ….. this is a fascinating piece ….. obviously made quite possibly for a wedding ,especially for a person who followed both dominant faiths in China at that time ..
