As some of you know we mostly collect European decorated porcelain and have a large collection. I just added a teapot that is really baffling me and migth shed a very different light on what I have taken for granted. To me it looks like a very classic Amsterdam redecorated Kakiemon style teapot with added birds, a tiger and flowers. Color wise its also consistent of what we know of Amsterdam Bont Kakiemon. However this teapot has raised relief in the flowers and upon carefull inspection the decoration appears to be incomplete without the colors. The blue branches dont seem to leave space for the flowers. In Amsterdam bont this is never the case as the Dutch painters used the Chinese complete decoration and added something. Its almost as if they added new material to create the relief. I still think the addition of the red flowers was something that was planned all along. Has anybody ever seen anything remotely similar?
